Once upon a time in a Northern English City far away, there was a supremely successful club and shall we say a less successful football club. The latter supporters were, shall we say, a downtrodden minority, e.g.

"Dad, I have something to tell you. I am a Man City fan"

"Son, you have brought shame on the family!"

Then after being relegated, humiliated and too broke almost to pay for the chalk for the pitch markings, something remarkable happened. Someone with really serious money bought it. One FA cup later we come to the most remarkable season anyone can remember. United 1 City 6 is a score that will be a constant reminder that the mighty Reds have a serious rival. Then we come to the final match, the final minutes almost the final kick. United have won their game, City desperately need two goals. Their fans are in dispair, surely this was to be City's season. The equilizer from Dzeko, hope yet, the clock is ticking. Somehow Aguero threads his way through the QPR players camped out in their box. He scores and it is City's Title. The first since 1968 when players played mostly in black and white.

United fans are fed up, making success for the Citizens even sweeter. Time for City fans everywhere to "come out", it is no longer something to be ashamed of. It is quite natural.

Yooo hoooo! We've been and come back a slightly darker (or redder) colour. We went to Palm Beach Hotel in Kotu and the weather for the first week was a bit cool and windy in the evenings and two mornings had a bit of cloud that disappeard late morning. The second week was as hot as hell!

This was our first stay at Palm Beach, and the hotel has a great atmosphere. Generally, it was clean although you just have to accept that not everything is inch perfect. The pool is clean, although it is neither big or very deep. Just as well, really because I'm a hopeless swimmer. The breakfast is good, although a bit repetitive, with boiled and fried eggs on alternative days (most of the time). Hotel meals are also quite good, and with a wide range including curries for homesick Brits; the prices aren't bad either.

Entertainment is the usual mixture of drums drums and more drums, although we had some other intrumentalists as well. The electricity often goes off but that doesn't stop the drums. Sadly while we were there the power stayed on throughout the karaoke evenings, although someone blew it up with a scream on "Twist and Shout" to everyone's relief.

The crowning glory of Palm Beach is the location - it really is next to the beach, so you can just walk to it. Obviously you get pestered by people selling you sun glasses, peanuts and other stuff; but that's The Gambia for you.

Nice to be nice, it's Gambian price.
