Gambia News: Liberian senator Prince Yormie Johnston visits Banjul to woo Gambian investors
Senior Liberian senator, Prince Yormie Johnson, was on Monday received by the Speaker of the Gambian Parliament, Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, in her office in Banjul.
Johns is on a business trip on behalf of Uniglobal Gambia Ltd. to woo Gambian investors to invest in Liberia.
He is also seeking to build cooperation between the legislatures of the two member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Johnson, who arrived in Banjul on Friday, thanked President Jammeh and the Gambian people for their efforts in bringing peace to Liberia.
A member of the ECOWAS Parliament, Johnson paid tribute to Gambia’s ECOWAS parliamentarians, terming them “the best” in the sub-region.
He also recognized the role played by Gambians in the Liberian civil war, citing the efforts of President Jammeh and the Gambian contingent of soldiers and officers in bringing peace to Liberia.
He called for support from the sub-region to help reconstruct Liberia after 16 years of war.
Johnson said the Liberian government led by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is a government of peace.
He said Liberia would never again be used as a launch pad for war.
Johnson also called for inter-parliamentary cooperation between Liberia and The Gambia, a call that was supported by the Speaker of the Gambian Parliament.
"The European Parliament should learn from us now as our work at the ECOWAS Parliament is far ahead of the European Parliament,” said Speaker Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay
