Gambia: NSSS Holds Graduation

May 09,2007 by

gambia

Nusrat Senior Secondary School (NSSS), on Saturday held its graduation ceremony at the school hall in Bundung. Speaking at the occasion Mrs Amie Njie Jobe, the guest speaker of the ceremony who was also an ex-student of NSSS, spoke on the importance of education.

According to her education both formal and informal in any socio -economic development is significant. "It is the key to success in any human endeavour, although development is multi-faceted." She added that education plays a very important role as one needs to be informed and educated in all aspects of life." She continued that education is a public good and when one graduates they can become doctors, lawyers, teachers and journalists which immensely serves the various communities and the country as a whole. She noted that education is the largest industry and greatest consumer of public revenue, education serves as the core foundation for any meaningful development.

"It is a reality that this world is full of challenges and competitions, you are about to begin a new life and a very personal journey to discover your real identities, remember there are hundreds of students from different schools graduating as well but one thing that differentiates you is that you are a product of Nusrat which is known for its academic excellence," she said.

Mrs Jobe urged the students to go out and distinguish themselves with high confidence. Always aim high and reach out for the best, endeavour to achieve higher education in order to add your quota to the development of your communities and families to whom you owe that duty for the sacrifices they have made to see you sail through life. Make a vow that you will give this beloved nation the best at all times, be role-models to your siblings as they will be the future leaders.

"I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the graduating class of 2007 and wish you all the best of luck in the coming exams, I am confident that you will live up to your expectations by keeping the Nusrat flag flying higher and higher," she concluded.

For his part Mr J.S.A. Kemokai, a senior teacher in the school, said that as they are passing out of the school and into the community, the society they are passing into is full of resources but the doors to these resources are difficult to open. He noted that when they were in uniforms, they were considered the cream of the society and they received help from all directions, but the society they are going to pass into, especially without their school uniforms, is not very helpful.

He added that the good senior secondary school education they have acquired at Nusrat and the sound moral values that have inoculated in them are the duplicate keys to the resources in this society and for that matter any society. "I advise you to maintain your identity as a Nusratarian, in our school song we say for discipline and hard work Nusrat is number1, as you officially leave Nusrat, press on with hard work in every area of your life and show humility where ever you find yourself," he said. The ceremony was attended by the school staff, students, ex-students and parents.
