Gambia : Quantum Net Boss Justifies UTG Partnership
The Chief Executive Officer of Quantum Net, Mr Muhammed Jah, has explained why his company went into a partnership with the University of the Gambia and Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada.
Speaking recently at the press briefing held at the Quantum Institute of Technology along Kairaba Avenue, Mr Jah said the initiative was meant to achieve the goal of partnership between the private sector and the public sector. He added that it was meant to realise the Silicon Valley dream.
According to him, his company decided to go in for higher education in response to customers’ incessant demand.
The QuantumNet boss emphasised that the Silicon Valley dream could not be achieved if the country’s workforce did not have the requisite skills and knowledge.
He disclosed that his company would before long spread out into the provinces to meet the growing yearning for IT skills and knowledge.
According to him, at least 71 students have so far been enrolled in the institute.
For his part, the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Crispin Grey-Johnson, said government would like to encourage more partnership between the UTG and other private institutions.
According to him, the President, Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, had always called for partnership between the UTG and other institutions of higher learning.
He said the UTG would give the necessary support to the programme and to strengthen the partnership into many other fields of higher education.
Mr Grey-Johnson pointed out that the human resource is crucial to the development of the country and reiterated Mr Jah’s view that the Silicon Valley dream could only be achieved and maintained if the workforce was armed with the necessary skills and know-how.
Mrs Hadi Taylor of Saint Mary’s University Halifax, Canada, said it was very important for UTG to form partnership with other institutions of higher learning, especially in the information, communication and technology sector.
She argued that information communication and Technology is very important in any country’s development efforts.
