Miss Black USA Pageant , A Big Boost for The Gambia
The rare opportunity given to The Gambia to host the 2007 Miss Black USA Beauty Pageant is indeed a fillip for the country as it will go yet another step closer in boosting our tourism, as well as fostering unity between Gambians and African Americans.
As we zero in on the much-hyped and eagerly awaited event, it is fitting at this juncture to commend the organisers for choosing peaceful hospitable Gambia to be the venue for the event.
While we look forward to the successful hosting of the pageant, we would like to urge all and sundry to spare no effort in giving our brothers and sisters from the Diaspora a memorable treatment as this will, no doubt, sell The Gambia in the best ambassadorial guise.
There is no gainsaying that how well or poorly the guests are treated will be the ultimate deciding factor on whether they are lured back to pay us more visits or repulsed at even the thought or suggestion of visiting in future either for holidays or business trips. They could as well encourage others to do the same.
In cognizance of this, it behoves each and every one of us endear our esteemed guests with our genuine smiles, agreeable composure, not to mention our rich cultural heritage, which has made us an enviable nation-state not only in Africa but throughout the globe.
The fact that this is the first time for the mega event to be staged on African soil should explain why every Gambian should be seen positively participating in the event.
Thus companies and corporate individuals who have already made financial contributions towards the programme deserve a pat on the back. We expect others to follow suit as the event is a worthy cause.
Finally, we say welcome home to our brothers and sisters, confident to assure them that in this great West African state, they will find a home from home.
