Gambia News : Sir Dawda urges journalists to step up malaria education

gambia Former Gambian President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara on Tue sday reiterated that malaria was a deadly disease in Africa and urged journalist s to educate the public on the dangers of a malaria attack.

He said journalists had a big role to play in the fight against the disease and urged them to report on it from the village level through the cities to all comm u nities.

The former Gambia leader made the statement when members of African Media Malari a Research Network (AMMRENT) paid a courtesy call on him at his residence in Fajara.

Sir Dauda urged journalists to redouble their effort on reporting on malaria and other health issues saying: "Your role is important as information is vital in t he fight against malaria especially in the rural areas were information is a pro b lem to reach the people."

Pa Modou Faal, Coordinator AMMRENT (Gambia), said Gambian journalists were repor ting in all parts of the country especially in the area of health and the main f o cus for now was malaria.

He said the AMMRENT (Gambia) was taking the message in the fight against malaria to the doorstep of all Gambians and non Gambians.
