Gambia News : Father charged for defiling step-daughter

gambia One Lamin Bora Bajinka has been charged for defiling his step-daughter at Busumbala Village, Kombo North, Western Region.

Mr Bajinka, a taxi driver, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates Court, who warned the accused of the severe consequences should he continue to deny the charge.

The magistrate observed that he suspected that there was some element of truth in the charge against the accused, as his own witnesses have been reluctant to come to the court to give testimony.

Mr Bajinka, said to be in his 40s, was accused of defiling Ramatoulie Jammeh, who is the daughter of his wife. But Mr Bajinka has continued to refute the charge levelled against him.

When the case resumed on Monday, Mr Bajinka told the court that the allegation levelled against him was baseless, saying that since he married "no one had known me for such acts."

The police prosecutor, Cpl 1260 Colley, then applied for the accused to be granted a court bail, but this was revoked by the presiding magistrate, who subsequently ordered for Mr Bajinka to be remanded until September 15, when the case will resume.
