Gambia News : Francophonie activities in the Gambia were a success, says French cultural centre boss
The Director of the French cultural centre in The Gambia, the Alliance Franco-Gambienne, Pascal Ressouk, on Saturday night described this year’s semaine de la Francophonie (from 13-26 March) as a “remarkable success.”
Speaking to APA, Mr. Ressouk said so far, only two items remained in the wide ranging programme of activities which included reggae and rock group concerts at a number of high schools, a march past through town, as well as round table discussions on the French language and francophonie at Alliance headquarters in Serekunda, about 15 kilometres from Banjul. He said there was also a programme on the French language inThe Gambia on City Limits Radio, and a play on polygamy by the company Les Cruellas of Senegal.
Ressouk said there were also featured in the programme of activities an arts exposition by schools on the environment and a whole day (Saturday) allocated for French club programmes for the celebrations.
Ressouk said the final programme will be an invitation to a dinner given by the President of the organising committee, Dr. Momodou Lamin Sedat Jobe, a retired Gambian diplomat, which he said will also feature French cuisine in the alliance’s garden, to be followed by a concert with the Burkinabe maestro, Victor Deme, at the same venue.
The week’s programme, which involved activities at Gambia College and nine local senior high schools, also featured foreign artists such as the reggae singer Elie Kamano from Guinea Conakry, Prisca, a rock group from France and the duo, Juan & Rhoses of France and Jamaica respectively.
A number of Gambian speakers of the French language also took part in the week’s programme.
