Gambia News: Gambian Head of State Thanks Angola's Government

Gambian president, Yahya Jammeh, Wednesday in Luanda, thanked Angolan Government for the tolerance with which it has been treating his fellow-countrymen living in the country.

Yahya Jammeh expressed this during the ceremony of accreditation of Angolan non-resident ambassador to Gambia, Brito Sozinho.

On the occasion, president Yahya Jammeh said he was aware that not all citizens of his country were people of good faith, but the tolerance of Angolan Government to them was a gesture that Gambia appreciated.

The head of State encouraged the Angolan authorities to act against those who break the laws of coexistence, and even repatriate them as, he added, what is not allowed in their country should not be expected to be accepted in Angola.

During the ceremony of about 30 minutes, the Gambian president said his country was interested to get Angola's assistance in the field of oil and gas exploration, mentioning agriculture and tourism as potential sectors for strengthened cooperation between the two countries.

Yahya Jammeh also proposed the discussion and approval of a cooperation accord, towards the creation of joint bilateral commission to strengthen the relations between the two countries in the various sectors.

In his turn, ambassador Brito Sozinho, who offered to the host president a book entitled "Angola New challenges", written in Portuguese, English and French, highlighted the deep relation of friendship between the presidents of both countries.

Ambassador Brito Sozinho has permanent residence in Guinea-Bissau, where he was accredited in January 2007. He is also Angolan representative to Guinea Conakry, where he was accredited in August 2007.
