Gambia News : Mayor of Gambian capital hosts his SLeonean counterpart

gambia The mayor of Freetown, the Sierra Leonean capital has called for African municipalities to learn from each others’ experiences while paying a courtesy call on his counterpart in Banjul, the Gambian capital on Tuesday.

Speaking during a week-long visit to Banjul which commenced Monday, Mayor Herbert George Williams said even though Freetown has a population of about 2.5 million, it has still got quite a lot to learn from the experiences of a much smaller city like Banjul. He mentioned in particular the historic and cultural relations that had existed between the two cities for a very long period of time.

In his response, Mayor Samba Faal suggested the setting up of a forum where African municipalities can exchange ideas. He also saw the meeting with Mayor Williams as an opportunity to consolidate the existing relations between Banjul and Freetown.
