Residents of Basse and the surrounding villages have expressed their
frustration and dissatisfaction over the poor reception of the GRTS
Television within their area. Some of the people who spoke to this
reporter are, therefore, calling on the concerned authorities to do
their best and remedy the poor reception of the TV.
In an interview with this reporter, the regional manager of the GRTS at
Basse Radio, Mr. Nuha Badjie, acknowledged the poor reception of the
television in the said area, but was quick to point out that the
problem is caused by Nawec and not their transmitter.
According to
Mr. Badjie, the power cuts from Nawec, coupled with low supply of
energy to their transmitter, are the factors responsible for the poor
reception of the TV in the area. He said that their transmitter is
powerful and that is why it requires sufficient energy for it to
perform its normal functions. He also urged the people in the Region to
maintain patience, as the matter has already been reported to the
authorities at Nawec and they promised to remedy the situation. A
technician, working at the Basse radio, said they lost one of their
amplifiers as a result of the power cuts from Nawec. A senior staff
working at the GAMTEL Branch in Basse told this Reporter that they do
face problems at their place of work due to insufficient energy and
power cuts. This, the staff said, had damaged most of their electrical
appliances and equipment.
This reporter visited the NAWEC Branch
at Basse and was told that the senior staff, Mr. Fofa Cham, has
traveled. However a staff there refuted the claims made by the GRTS and
the Gamtel personnel.
