Gambia News: V-P Njie Saidy Lunches Two Projects In Foni

gambia The Vice President Aja Isatou Njie Saidy on Monday launched a solar lightening and rainwater harvesting projects in the Foni village of Kankurang . The projects are for the two villages of Kangkurang and Kafenkeng . The lighting system will provide both villages with free electric lighting twenty-four hours, official sources told The Gambia Journal. Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Njie-Saidy expressed President Jammeh’s appreciation of the projects and described them a worthy examples of south-south cooperation. The project are sponsored by a partnership of Bare Foot College , an Indian grassroots organization, and Riders For Health a UK-based charity. Two women, each from one of the two targeted village have had training on running, maintaining and repairing the equipment at the Barefoot College in India . They will be responsible for running the lighting systems in their respective villages. Mrs. Njie saidy thanked the two donor partners for the projects and assured them of President Jammeh’s appreciation of their efforts. She added that provision of electricity and clean water empowers communities and provide good health to individuals. She said the rainwater harvesting system will provide the youth with clean water and better health.
Simultaneously being launch at Kankurang village, was another project sponsored by Riders For Health and the Rotary Club of Fajara . It is a vehicle called the Uhuru Ambulance Pump which was presented to three other Foni villages of Bambarang, Mayok and Wassadu. The vehicle can be used as ambulance as well as a water pump for the irrigation of women communal gardens in the three villages. Mrs. Njie Saidy told the gathering assembled for the launching of the two projects that they were a demonstration of President Jammeh;s wise leadership and his commitment to the country’s socio-economic development. She adde that the entire members of Jammeh’s government were commit to the sustainable development of the country. She thanked all the donors for their efforts.
