Gambia News : Gambia introduces biometric drivers' licence

Jan 16,2010 by

gambia The Gambia Police Force has finalised the introduction of biometric drivers' licence, Superintendent Sulayman Secka, police public relations officer, said in Banjul on Friday.

He said the Gambia Police Force (GPF) was set to introduce biometric drivers' licence for all categories of drivers. The new licence costs D500, about US$5.00.

'With effect from Thursday, 17 January 2010, the green licence will expire and will no longer be valid. All those who have to get the biometric licence and all applicants should appear in person before being issued with the new licence,' he stressed.

'We are no more giving licence to anybody who does not appear before us. If the applicant gets the biometric identity card, his/her serial number will bring out the person's details, after which the applicant will be taught a traffic signs lesson, which will be practical.

"If the applicant is qualified, he or she will be issued with the new biometric licence.'

He also said that all drivers should change their old licences and come for the biometric licence.

  • My friend check your calender well, January the 17th is not on Thursday, and secondly i don`t get it very well, IF he MEANS that after that day all the old driving licence are invalid, there must be a financial reason. People need at least 6 months!
