Gambia News : Gambia marks "Day of the African Child"

gambia Child-rights organisations in the Gambia, in collaborati on with UNICEF, is marking "Day of the African Child" Monday with a series of programmes revolving around the theme - "Child participation".

The celebration is expected to highlight the plight of children in Africa, national broadcaster Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) monitored here, reported.

The day was set aside by the former Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1991 in commemoration of the killing of scores of children in Soweto, during the apartheid regime in South Africa.
