Gambia News : Gambia set to hold its third biennial trade fair
Preparations for The Gambia’s third biennial trade fair are well
under way, to be hosted by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(GCCI) from 14 to 25 November, 2009, APA can ascertain here Monday.
According
to a press release from the GCCI, the hosting of the fair by the
chamber, which started in 2005, will as usual be held at the
Independence Stadium in Bakau in the Kanifing Municipality, just
outside Banjul.
According to an official, the lack of a permanent location for the fair is one of the reasons it is not held annually.
This year’s fair, code named TFGG 2009, is based on
what an official publication termed « a vision to reposition the
country as a centre of service excellence by developing a highly
committed organisation oriented to serving the needs of its members and
to building effective partnerships that will positively impact
development of the private sector towards sustainable development,
thereby being relevant, responsive and representative of the business
community. »
Progress reports indicate that preparations are far advanced ahead of this year’s great business opportunity.
The chamber, whose primary function is the provision of
essential business services to the private sector and to its members,
also advises and influences government in creating a favorable business
environment.
« It has also played a key role in expanding
international trade activities and promoting growth and in bringing
together a wide range of business interests into close and continuous
contact with government departments, » the release said.
The objectives of the trade fair are « to provide
business exposure to the small and medium enterprises, to promote
Gambian products, provide a platform for joint ventures, and among
others, draw public attention to the role of the private sector
.
"The organisation and scope of the fair are exhibiting products of the
business community and the public sector, as well as holding individual
business meetings to develop business linkages.
« The target audience are the visitors including
business people, government officials, investors, consumers, and
tourists in The Gambia. It is envisaged that the trade fair will
attract the Gambian public, visitors especially from the West Africa
sub-region, as well as from Spain ad other European countries, » the
release adds.
