Gambia: GRTS's Musa Camara Passes Away
Musa Camara, a veteran journalist with Gambia Radio & Television Services ( GRTS) who won fame as a broadcaster at Radio Gambia, on Friday 22nd JUne 2007, breathed his last at his residence in Bakau New Town.
Until his death, the late Musa Camara has been broadcasting news in the Fulani and Mandingo languages for over 30 years.
The deceased, whose death caused a profound grief and shock among friends, family members, colleagues, loved ones and the journalist fraternity, has been extolled by many as an accomplished broadcaster.
Speaking to The Point, the Programme director at Gambia Radio & Television services (GRTS), Mr Serign Fye, expressed sorrow at the death of Mr Camara, saying that he had diligently served the nation's radio for almost 30 years. He said: " Mr. Camara started working with Radio Gambia as a production and a library keeper. "
Mr Faye added that the deceased loved his job and has been very versatile in the execution of his noble profession.
He added that Mr. Camara's social relation was fantastic, nothing that he forthcoming with help whenever his assistance was needed.
Mr. Samba Camara, the son of Hassan Musa Camara, and a cousin to the deceased, said that after leaving school, his father assisted him to train and become a journalist following his decision to quit the teaching field.
He said: " I cant remember any but about the man. He used to be very helpful and friendly to family members, friends and the rest of the society . " Two brothers to the deceased, Messrs Mamadi camara and Juma Jallow, said that their late brother was a helpful and generous person, adding that his demise has created a vaccum and a sense of loss for the family.
Hassan musa camara, one of the sons of the deceased, lamented that they had lost a very loving and generous father who had been very helpful to the family and the public at large. " My father is a holy shrine who showered lots of fruitful gains to his family in order to be cognisant about wordly affairs. His dauget, Aunty Gibel Camara, also expressed similar sentiments. They both paryed for his soul to rest in peace. The late musa camara is survived by a wife and 10 children.

- Obviously i haven't heard his voice for over 10 years but am sure the announcement of the death of Musa Camara will be sadden to a lot of Gambians especially to those News loving listeners.
He has served the nation, the public and communities while doing his job with enthusiasm and charisma. A great Gambian servant who is surely going to be missed.
