In line with the famous blueprint for the development of The Gambia, Vision 2020, the government of The Gambia has demonstrated its commitment in encouraging the participation of the private sector in the development of the country.

According to His Excellency the president of the republic, Dr. Alhagie Yahya Jammeh, a dynamic private sector offers good opportunities for  employment generation, enhancement of technological transfer, increase in valuable capital inflows, diversification of economic activities and increased income earning opportunities of the government through increased tax revenues. President Jammeh made this remark while delivering a statement during the launching of Comium Company Limited, the latest and third mobile phone company in The Gambia.

"The establishment and development of Comium," he said, "clearly goes to reaffirm government’s commitment to create the enabling environment that allows the private sector to play more pro-active role in the economy."

President Jammeh revealed that the government of The Gambia, through The Gambia Investment Promotion and Free Zones Agency (GIPFZA), and the Public Utilities and Regulatory Authority (PURA), would continue to provide the conducive environment that, he enthused, would go a long way in creating a level playing field for all and encourage competition as well as enhance investment.

The Gambian leader made it clear that whoever is ready to operate in The Gambia on the basis of mutual benefit of the people of The Gambia and the company would be given 100% support. "All I want for the Gambia is the best not only in terms of quality but also in terms of affordability. All I have is the Gambian people. What ever I do is for the Gambian people. I live for The Gambia and I live for Africa," he said, adding that anyone who provides quality services that eradicates poverty could rest assured of his backing.

"If we have something, no matter how good it is, if 90% of The Gambian people cannot benefit from it, then it means it is as good as nothing for me," President Jammeh observed.
