Gambia: In 18 Foreign Exchange Dealers Case Prosecution Asks for Time

The ongoing case of the of the 18 foreign exchange dealers was yesterday adjourned by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court.

When the case was called in the court, Police Jaharteh informed the court that he wants the court to give him at least a fort night adjournment to further investigate the matter.


Magistrate Jammeh then subsequently granted the prosecution application and adjourned the case until May 22, 2007.

It could be recalled the 18 foreign exchange dealers namely Momodou Hassimou Jallow, Sulayman Jallow, Bailo Barry, Yorro Barry, Muhammed Alieu Barry, Abdoulie Jallow, Ebrima Bah, Ebrima Sorry Bah, Sarjo Jallow, Abdoulie Jallow, Momodou Salieu Sey, Momodou Bobo Barry, Momodou Korka Jallow, Momodou Salieu Jallow, Alfusainey Barry, Abdoulie Muhammed Jallow, Sorry Bah and Abdoluie Rahman Jallow were all charged with unlawfully trading in a foreign currency in a manner injurious to the economy of the state, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Criminal Code and punishable under Section 6 (1) of the Economic Crimes, Laws of The Gambia.

Earlier on, they all pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The case continues on May 22, 2007.
