Gambia News: New Device to curb drink-driving-As police get digital test machine

Aug 21,2007 by

gambia by Hatab Fadera : Dawda Sarr, a Gambian philanthropists based in Germany recently donated two digital alcohol testers worth twelve thousand and six hundred Dalasi (D12,600) to the Gambia Police Force, at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Banjul.

Presenting the items to FRI Jammeh, Police Adviser, on behalf of the Gambia Police Force, Dawda Sarr, said he started to donate to the Police Force as far back as 1993, and then noted that  he has since then been very instrumental to them.
He noted that, the items donated are meant to reduce road accidents as, according to him, most of the accidents occur as a result of over-drunk.

He said “most drivers drive while they are drunk without realising the speed being used. I believe with these items, it will greatly reduce road accidents as drivers will be detected by the Police on their speeds and conditions on the road,” he said.
Receiving the gesture, on behalf of the Inspector- General of Police, FRI Jammeh, Police Adviser hailed Mr Sarr’s gesture, describing it as worthy and timely.  FRI Jammeh noted that the safety of every citizen should remain the priority of every Gambian, adding that  with these items, it will no doubt help the Police to reduce road accidents.

FRI Jammeh used the occasion to call on other Gambians living in the diaspora to emulate the gesture.
For his part, Yahya Fadera, Commissioner of Administration at the Gambia Police Force, commended the donor, describing the gesture as a great contribution, not only to the Police, but also to the entire Gambian people.
He assured the donor that the donated items will be put into good use for efficient service delivery of the Police.
