Gambia: Tabara Samba Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charge
Tabara Samba, the lady alleged to have poured hot oil on her late husband, Mr. Ebrima Nyan, pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.
Tabara Samba has been helping the police in their investigation into an incident that has been greeted with horror in many quarters. Following the death of Ebrima Nyan last Friday, she was charged with murder, contrary to section 187 of the criminal act.
The particulars of offence stated that the accused murdered one Ebrima Nyan on 17th March 2007, by pouring hot oil on him at Old Jeshwang. Upon hearing the charge, the accused entered a plea of not guilty to charge.
Sergeant 453 Touray at this juncture applied for adjournment for hearing.
The presiding magistrate granted the application and ordered that the accused be committed to the remand wing of Mile 2. The case was thus adjourned to 4th April, 2007 when hearing is scheduled to commence.
The late Mr Ebrima Nyan, 65, reportedly spent a long time in Sweden, returning in 2003 when he got married to the accused. He is survived by four children, three daughters and a son.
The accused is represented by Counsel Modou Drammeh.

- This is a sad case to hear. Even though i dont support a man marrying two women, this still does not justify taking his life. As for the murder charge, i think that should be dropped. This is a case of man slaughter. I doubt she had the intention to kill.
