Gambia: With Gambian Passport,No Transit Visas for Brussels Airlines

May 29,2007 by

Passengers travelling with Brussels Airlines to the EU countries, Switzerland, Canada or the US no longer need transit visas for Brussels Airport.

As from now on, the passengers must show the immigration officers only a valid visa for the final travel destination, consequently making flying with Brussels Airlines less complex and cheaper.

Before this landmark development in the history of the aviation industry, all Gambians travelling with Brussels Airlines via Brussels to EU countries (Scandinavia, France, Spain, Germany, ...) or Switzerland, the US or Canada, needed to apply for a transit visa for Brussels Airport. The application procedure for the transit visa used to take several days or even weeks and was expensive.

“After discussions between Brussels Airlines and the Belgian government authorities, the Belgian foreign office decided to waive these transit visas for all holders of Gambian passports,” stated a press release issued to this paper Friday.

“This decision of the Belgium foreign office makes travelling with Brussels Airlines from The Gambia via our comfortable Brussels home base to the EU and The US or Canada less complex and cheaper,” enthused Frederic Stiels, Brussels Airlines Country boss in The Gambia.

He added: “We welcome, very much, this waiving of transit visas for our clients with Gambian passports. It is very good news for all the people who prefer Brussels Airlines as their airline of choice. Now that Gambians no longer need a transit visa, the number of passengers travelling in comfort with Brussels Airlines will increase significantly.”

In another development, Brussels Airlines has, as a special gesture, just launched a very attractive promotion to Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark and the UK. Fares start from 933 dollars equivalent to D26,124  only (London Gatwick) or 974 dollars or D27,272 only for Stockholm, Sweden and Frankfurt, Germany with all taxes included.

Meanwhile, Brussels Airlines operates direct services to and from The Gambia twice a week. The airline offers its passengers onboard the comfortable Airbus 330-300 aircraft the choice between a state-of-the-art business class product, including flat beds and a comfortable economy class travel solution. Thanks to the strong European and US flight offer, Brussels Airlines connects Banjul with over 50 destinations in Europe or the US.
