Moustapaha Niasse Urges Better Gambia Ferries services for Senegalese

Feb 20,2007 by

Moustapha Niasse, the AFP party presidential candidate in the February 25 presidential polls, has said that when elected into office he would engage the Gambian authorities in dialogue with a view to ensuring that Senegalese plying the Gambian ferries are given a better deal.

The former Senegalese Prime Minister told a mass political rally in Ziguinchor that there was a need for the Senegalese government to review its foreign policy. He said, " There is an urgent need to consult our Gambian brothers with regard to the issue of the ferries linking river Gambia."

For Niasse, the two brotherly countries should establish a healthy relationship based on dialogue and constant consultation.

" Senegal and Gambia must discuss ways to make crossing easier for Senegalese plying the routes between North and South of Senegal. And this is not possible if we do not associate with the Gambia," he positioned.

He alleged that the current Senegalese government foreign policy on the issue is not based on mutual trust and interest. "If I’m elected I will immediately show the practicality of my views to our Gambian counterparts," he said.
