Gambia News : Gambian Muslims to begin fasting Saturday

gambia The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), in collaboration with the Association of mosque Committees in the Greater Banjul Area, and in consultation with Imam Ratib of Banjul, announced here on Friday that the fasting for the Holy month of Ramadan would begin on Saturday.

A press release by the GSIC shows a new timetable for the Holy Month which stipulates when the Muslim Ummah will have their meals and pray the farj and Magrib.

The timetable, according to the release, has been fashioned out in consultation with the Gambian Meteorological Office.

"This timetable supersedes all other timetables and will be announced over natio nal television and radio and copies made available at the GSIC regional secretariats. The cooperation of the entire Muslim Ummah is solicited," the release concluded.
