Gambia News : Gambian President sells rams at State House
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has opened rams market at the State
House in Banjul to sell sheep to needy Muslims across the country and
enable them slaughter one as required for the Eid El Adha celebrations.
Jammeh told the national broadcasting station here on Thursday he
was selling the rams 30 per cent cheaper than those being sold in town.
He
said the price outside was high and if he did not get involved as
President, majority of the needy will not get rams for their families.
"Every
Muslim has the right to be happy during the El Adha and it is my
responsibility to come to the aid of the needy and less fortunate on
such occasions," he said, adding that he was selling his rams at less
price to get the reward here after.
Jammeh disclosed that in
2010, the government would pass a livestock bill to regulate the
selling of livestock, saying that animals will be weighed and prices
fixed before being taken to the market.
