Gambia News : Groundnut price set at D8,500 as Gambia trade season begins

gambia The Agribusiness Service and Producer Association (ASPA), responsible for the management of the Gambia groundnut sector, has fixed producer price of the product at D8,500 per metric ton, a commission of D900 per metricton for the 2009/10 groundnut marketing season.

According to a press release, made available to PANA here Monday, ASPA also declared Monday the official commencement date for this year's groundnut marking season in The Gambia, until 30 March 2010 when the season closes.

The press release further said this year's producer price was arrived at using the officially recognized producer price determination mechanism, which takes into account the world market price for groundnut, as well as parameter and ratios relevant to the domestic marketing system.

"This year's price is quite favourable, compared to what pertains in the sub-region. Farmers are therefore urged to sell their produce through the existing marketing outlets," the release noted.
