Gambia News : Man jailed for attempting to bribe President Jammeh
A man has been jailed in Banjul for seven years for attempting to bribe Gambian President Yahya Jammeh. Modou Sowe was found guilty after the President’s office accused him of writing a letter in which he promised to give the leader an extensive portion of his family’s land in exchange for a job at State House.
Stern warning Upon receiving the letter through his office, President Jammeh ordered Justice ministry officials to prosecute the job seeker.
The man is said to be in his mid 30s. Meanwhile, the President’s office took the opportunity to warn citizens against such practices, otherwise “the full force of the law will be applied.” A release from the President’s office issued a stern warning to the general public to desist from such practices.

- There nothing wrong with giving a consideration for a job. I think it was foolish and childish to give such long jail term to a desperate ignorant young man for asurd act. I wonder what judiciary system will rule such.

- Its an insult to bribe any president. No matter if in The Gambia, Europe, South America, Asia. 8 years is harsh its true, But the man should have been dealt with and made an example of, Maybe not with that many years in jail though LOL,

- Mr president we are very confident, our journey towards a better Gambia will never fail us. We should be proud of our President and the wanting of a better Gambia. We have the best democracy since the President took office in 1994 for real.

- What about all he bribes already accepted by this murdering president and his outright theft from the Gambian people. Remember he was just a poor soldier. Now look what he owns, obviously not obtained legally. Sorry I forgot he is the law!

- What a joke! Here in the UK anyone writing to the PM for a job in exchange for land would be laughed at! Why send this guy to prison for 8 years? Here in the UK murderers get less than 8 years. Another example of bad BLACK law. Pity....
