Gambia News : President Jammeh, others decorated by Rotary Foundation
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh and several prominent Gambians were on Tuesday honoured the Rotary Foundation.
They were decorated with the Major Donor Level III Diamond Pin at a
ceremony in Banjul, according to a press release from State House.
The
release said the award was in recognition of President Jammeh's
humanitarian gesture of giving US$30,000 to the foundation some two
years ago on behalf of 30 people who are now Paul Harris Fellows of the
Foundation.
Aki Allen, Assistant Governor of the Rotary
Foundation, hailed President Jammeh for 'his profound generosity by
sponsoring all 30 recipients of Paul Harris Fel lows, as well as his
continuous support to them'.
Allen said the mission of the
Rotary Foundation was to enable Rotarians to advan ce world peace,
through the improvement of health, support to education and the
alleviation of poverty.
Among the projects the Foundation has
embarked on in The Gambia are support to schools, assistance of medical
equipment to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital and the Bansang
Hospital and polio immunization programme.
President Jammeh
called for sharing and caring among people in the world, adding that
'no matter how much you worship Allah, if we are not of service to
humanity, I think it will be very difficult to face the Almighty God.'
Sharing
and caring, as in both the Quran and the Bible, are some of the
fundamen tal pillars and principles of humanity, he said.
'If we
donâ?t care for each other, the kingdom of God will be far away from
humanity. God gives you for a reason and I think the only logical
reason why God has given anyone is for us to also give out. If we do
that, we will live in a very peaceful and caring world where
destitution will be absent,â? the Gambia leader said.
The Gambia first Lady Zeineb Yahya Jammeh was presented with Major Donor Level I II Necklace by the same foundation.
Among
the recipients of the award included Aja Fatou Bojang, mother of the
president of the Republic; ministers of state; the chief of protocol,
Alhaji Ceeay; the Inspector General of The Gambia Police Force, Ensa
Badjie; the executive direct or of Jammeh Foundation for Peace,
Ansumana Jammeh and the director-general of The Gambia Radio and
Television Services, Alhaji Momodou Sanyang.

- President Jammeh is growing stronger day by day because despite all the good service he is rendering to the nation his reward is insults by the people who are benefiting. You know why, because no chance for corruptions and abuse of public office.
