Secy Macdouall-Gaye Attends ITU Conference

gambia Mrs Neneh Macdouall-Gaye, the Secretary of State for Communication, Information and Technology, accompanied by a high profile delegation, recently returned home after attending the 17th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference held in Antalya, Turkey.

According to a press release announcing her return, the Information Secy used the occasion to state that “the Gambia government recognises” the important role of the ITU and would continue to support all its programmes towards creating an all-inclusive information society.

She noted that one major disparity being lamented by African countries is the cost of international bandwidth. Secy Macdoull-Gaye said that despite the excess bandwidth in the world it’s the developed world that is benefiting while poor countries pay exorbitantly.

She also hailed the dynamism of President Jammeh, who she described as a man of vision and mission, in transforming The Gambia into a knowledge-based, technologically advanced and economically effective nation.

The release further stated that the Information Secy also held bilateral talks with the newly appointed ITU Secretary General and the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation as well as a good number of telecommunication ministers.
