Gambia News : Spanish authorities detain 6 Gambian boxers
Six Gambian boxers have been arrested and detained in Spain, while they
were transiting to Italy for a boxing championship, the National Sports
Council (NSC) told PANA here Thursday.
The affected boxers are Momodou Drammeh, Malick Singhateh, Badou Secka, Lamin Gibba, Sulayman Colley and Dugu Jabbie.
The
council said they were arrested last Friday while on transit at the
Madrid Airport, because they allegedly could not provide documents
showing they were indeed heading for a box ing championship in Italy.
The
arrested boxers were part of a 17-strong Gambian team to the
championship. The team was divided into two to facilitate their travel
arrangements.
The boxers' passports were said to be carrying
valid visas, while they also had copies of the communications between
them and the championship organisers.

- This shows the disrespect the Spanish authorities have towards Africans. How can they dare to arrest people who have valid visa and they are just on transit?!!!I hope the Gambian Government will take a step against this discrimination. Shame!
