Gambia: Taiwan presents more cheques to DOSE
Dr Patrick Chang, the Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, last Friday presented two cheques for US$59,188 and US$86,916 respectively to The Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) and the Armed and Security Service Engineering Company (ASSEC), through Fatou Lamin Faye, Secretary of State for Basic and Secondary Education, at a ceremony held in her office, Banjul.
The two cheques are part of Taiwanese continous financial support towards the construction of Siffoe and Mayork Model Senior Secondary Schools in the Western Region. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dr Patrick Chang said the construction of the schools are the brainchild of President Jammeh and the construction work will finish soon.
According to him, education is an important tool in eradicating poverty, adding that the good cooperation between the two countries will grow from strength to strength. Receiving the cheques, Mrs Fatou, Lamin Faye, Secretary of State for Basic and Secondary Education applauded Dr Chang and described Taiwan as supportive of The Gambia in many developmental areas.
She said that the construction of the two schools will really help students in accessing education. “Taiwan has been one of the Gambia’s reliable partner for national development, and I hope that this cooperation will continued in the near future,” she said. For his part, Lt Col, Masanneh Kinteh, Commander of The Gambia National Army, who represented the Armed and Security Service Engineering Company emphasised on the essence of education which he said, is an important tool in national development. He then applauded the Taiwan for their support to The Gambia.
Abdoulie MA Loum, Deputy Director of GTTI, expressed similar sentiments. Baboucarr Bouye, Permanent Secretary in Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education chaired the ceremoney.
