Gambia: Two Members of Green Boys Drown in Wuli West

May 21,2007 by

gambia

Two men believed to be members of the Green Boys, an APRC youth group, were on Wednesday found dead after having apparently drowned in the Limbambul Yamoudou river.

The deceased, both sons of the same man, were Kulleh Danjo and Kaw Danjo aged 27 and 25 respectively. The father, Manku Danjo, is said to be the APRC village Chairman of Jah Kunda.

The former APRC candidate for Wuli West constituency during the last National Assembly election, Mr. Phoday M. Kebbeh, confirmed the incident to The Point in his Bundung residence over the weekend.

According to Mr Kebbeh, the incident happened last Wednesday at around 12:00 p.m., pointing out that the local fishermen in the village retrieved the bodies from the river within an hour of the incident. He said both deceased were strong supporters of President Jammeh and the APRC party, adding that the late Kulleh Danjo served him as a voluntary bodyguard during the campaign for the National Assembly election. According to Mr. Kebbeh, the deceased were always in the forefront of any activity carried out in and outside their village, adding that they were also members of the Wuli West APRC Green Boys movement.

He said the two left a big vacuum in their family as they were what he called breadwinners of their family.

The late Kulleh Danjo is survived by a wife and two children, while Kaw Danjo was unmarried.

According to our sources, Mr. Phoday M. Kebbeh left on Sunday for Jah Kunda to commiserate with the family on the death of the two youths.

The two were laid to rest at the Jah Kunda village cemetery. The funeral was attended by APRC supporters and well wishers within and outside Wuli West.
