Gambia : Immigration Department Gets New Unit
The Gambia Immigration Department created on Monday a new unit called the Professional Standards Unit, also known as the Complaints Unit.
In an interview with The Point newspaper yesterday about the new development, Immigration PRO Superintendent Lamin Jatta said the creation of the unit is in line with the Gambia Immigration development programme.
“The objective of setting up the unit is to create an atmosphere of openness between the immigration officers and the general public,” he said.
He added that the creation of the unit would also accord Gambians and non-Gambians whose rights may be abused by immigration officers the opportunity to report their grievances or complaints.
He said: “Any person who may have any grievances, complaints, or otherwise, can now make a direct report to the newly opened professional Standard Unit known as Complaints and Discipline Unit at the Immigration head quarters in Banjul.”
Complaints would be received with strict confidentiality and privacy and would be dealt with objectively, he affirmed.
PRO Jatta said further that “immigration officers are hereby warned that it is their duty to give good treatment to the general public, as they are not above the law”.
The office of the Professional Standard Unit can always be reached on the number 4229308 and will be fully operational on daily basis, he said.

- Dear my people,
I am a Gambian residing in the UK. I post this message to tell my people that, although The Gambia is a poor nation but very peaceful. But in recent years we have been observing politicians who use power to mislead us because we are poor. Creating violence, using position as a weapon to do want one feels like doing.
Lets be one, oneness and unity is a catalyst to mass development. Politicians just come and go. Lets not be divided by their sweet talks being verbalic not diplomatic.
