5-year-old Girl in Need of Overseas Treatment
Isatou Ndong, a five-year-old girl living in Manjai, is in need of urgent overseas medical treatment.
According to a medical report (Ref/Vol/61/11. No. 675541) from the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital dated 7 November 2006, Isatou should undergo a special medical treatment which is unavailable in The Gambia.
The report states that Isatou was diagnosed on 26 October 2006 and was found to be suffering from intracranial mass due to headache, poor vision and anorexia.
The report further states that examination reveals a child who looks unable to properly open both eyes, has stiffness of neck and cannot react to light.
Presently, facilities for neurosurgical treatment are not available in The Gambia and for that reason, the patient is strongly recommended for overseas treatment, the medical report notes.
According to Jainaba Sowe, the mother of Isatou, their family could not afford to send the little girl abroad for medical treatment, hence are seeking financial support from the general public, the NGOs, parastatals and the private sector to facilitate Isatou’s recommended overseas medical treatment.
