Gambia News : 6 Gambian parliamentarians arrested, Police deny

gambia The majority leader of the Gambian House of Representatives, Fabakry Tombong Jatta, Wednesday confirmed the arrest and detention of six members of the House, all from the same North Bank Region, saying that the legislators were members of the ruling APRC.

Jatta told PANA here he could not give details of the arrests as he was still investigating the matter.

According to Jatta, the arrested legislators are Mam Cherno Cham, member for Lower Nuimi, Man Cherno Jallow, member for Upper Nuimi, Momodou Touray, member for Central Badibou, Lamin Jammeh, member for Illiassa, Kebba Gaye, member for Jokadu and Ousman Bah, member for Sabach Sanjali Constituency.

Jatta said although the MPs had now been released, he would still make public the result of his investigations.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sulayman Secka, told PANA that the police had not arrested any member of the House.
