Gambia News : AI, others partner to enforce human rights in Gambia
Scores of human rights organisations and Dakar-based Gambians have launched a newly-formed civil society group, "the Coalition for Human Rights in The Gambia", to advocate for the enforcement of human rights in the West African country, the group said in a statement, received here by PANA on Wednesday. Among the founding members of the coalition are Amnesty International (AI) Senegal branch, The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), African Assembly for the Defence of Human Rights (RADDHO), Inter Africa Network for Women, Media, Gender and Development (FAMEDEV) as well as pro-media groups like the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and Radio Alternative Voice for Gambians (AVG).
The coalition began its work by briefing diplomats on human rights violations taking place in The Gambia.
The coalition listed the recent imprisonment of six journalists, the case of disappeared reporter, Chief Ebrima Manneh, and with the mass arrest of villagers, as some of the many human rights violations in the Gambia.
