Another emigrant dies on airplane leaving Banjul
The airliner SN Brussels officials have confirmed that a deceased human body has been found inside the main gear wheel well of an Airbus A330-300 operating from the Gambian capital Banjul via Senegal. This is the second deadly incident in a short time, probably induced by emigration attempts from Senegal and The Gambia. The flight, SN 204, landed in Brussels at the airport weekend.
According to 'Flightglobal.com', SN is reported to be cooperating fully with the Belgian investigators to uncover the story.
The incident followed another case of a dead stowaway in the main wheel of a Boeing 767 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta international airport on Friday. Flight DL 035, owned by Delta Airlines, originated from Dakar.
In a statement, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation described the deceased as a young black male in his twenties whose death might have been caused by asphyxia. He was believed to be squeezed by the landing gear shortly after take off.
Without any identification documents, the man's nationality could not be established. And authorities of both Senegal and The Gambia are yet to issue a statement as to whether their nationals were involved in the incidents.
A similar incident happened in June 2005 when a man died soon after the flight of South African Airways originating in Johannesburg took off from Dakar. And as the plane was preparing to land, the man's body parts fell onto a home near JFK airport in New York.
These incidents are believed to be desperate attempts to leave Senegal and The Gambia for greener pastures in North America or Europe while most other emigration routes are being sealed off. It is not believed that is possible to survive a flight outside an airplane, not the least because of the thin and extremely cold air at the heights these aircrafts are flying.
