Gambia News : Banjul, Bamako host ECOSAP Cluster Meetings on Small Arms
The ECOWAS Small Arms Programme (ECOSAP) cluster meetings on the
effective control of small arms and light weapons will be held in
Banjul, The Gambia, 23-24 June and in Bamako, Mali, 29-30 June, the
programme said in statement obtained by PANA here Friday.
Sponsored by ECOSAP, the meetings will aim to identify armed
violence reduction projects in member states, as well as update, review
and plan the activities of the various national commissions on small
arms (NATCOMs), in line with the benchmarks that were set in the work
plan.
The meetings will also build the skills of participants to
improve on narrative report writing, drafting of project proposal and
development of activity work plans.
Participants at the meetings
will include two members from each NATCOM, the UNDP focal point, one
representative from the Civil Society and staff of ECOSAP.
In
order to give effective technical backstopping to the NATCOMs and the
Civil Society, ECOSAP had split the 15 ECOWAS member states into four
cluster as follows – Cluster A (Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau
and Guinea Conakry); Cluster B (Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ghana);
Cluster C (Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali and Senegal) and Cluster D (Benin,
Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and Nigeria).
The meetings of Clusters B and D will hold in Monrovia, Liberia, and Lome, Togo, respectively on dates yet to be determined.
