Gambia News : Bissau politicians end consultative meeting in the Gambia
A two day consultative meetingof 18 of Guinea Bissau 21 political parties which President Yahya Jammeh convened in Banjul ahead of their 16 November, 2008 Presidential elections has ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
The parties renewed their commitment to national reconciliation, the consolidation of democracy and credible elections.
It also bound the parties to an election code of conduct drawn up during their deliberations.
Closing the sesssion Saturday, Vice President Isatou NjieSaidy on behalf of President Jammeh advised the parties to respect the accords signed at the meeting.
She urged them to adopt a development oriented electioneering campaign and to put the past behind them and move forward.
She thanked them for the confidence shown in The Gambia’s mediation competence.
