Gambia News : Canadian company to collect refuse in Gambia

gambia A Canadian waste collection company, Green Seeds Incorporated, has reached an agreement with the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) to collect refuse from the Gambian city.

Mr. Pa Kalifa Sanyang, Public Relations Officer of KMC told PANA that this means the residents will soon be paying for the cleansing services offered by the council.

He said the partnership resulted in the creation of a new company, Kanifing Inte grated Waste Management Company, which would take over the responsibilities of waste collection, disposal and management within the Kanifing Municipality.

Sanyang said the amount to be charged on each household was yet to be determined but added that dues would be reasonable and affordable, as many households in the area were living below the poverty line.

He emphasized that payment would be mandatory and every household would pay at the end of every month for the sustenance of the company.

Mr. Sanyang said the Canadian company will provide a fleet of vehicles for effective waste collection of the waste while the Council would give resources and complimentary manpower for a period of five years, after which the entire services would be returned to KMC.

He said other private companies in the business of waste collection within the municipality would also pay dues to the Kanifing Integrated Waste Management Company for use of the Council’s facilities such as dumpsites.
