Gambia News : Case against Gambian editor adjourned as magistrate returns to class

gambia The case against the Co-Publisher and Managing Editor of the Gambia's Point newspaper, Mr. Pap Saine, standing trial for alleged false publication and broadcasting was Thursday adjourned by Magistrate Sagarr Jahateh of the Kanifing Magistrate's Court to 25 February 2009 for hearing.

The case was adjourned because the presiding magistrate went to school at the Management Development Institute (MDI) to attend classes.

Saine and his lawyer, Modou Drammeh, were about to proceed with the case but were informed by the court registrar that the case had been adjourned.

Saine was arrested 3 February by operatives of the Gambia Police Force and charged with false publication and broadcasting and he was arraigned 4 February before Jahateh of the Kanifing Magistrate's Court.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case was adjourned to Thursday for hearing only to be adjourned again.
