President Yahya Jammeh accompanied by the Kuwaiti born business tycoon, Nasser Mohammed Al-Kharafi, yesterday inaugurated the 115 Kilometer Farrafenni-Laminkoto road.
The road is described as one of the best in West Africa. The project which cost D405m was funded by the Gambia Government, Kuwaiti Fund and BADEA.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the inauguration, the Gambian leader said the road is one of the best in rural Africa. He thanked the contractor, MA Kharafi and Sons for a job well done.
President Jammeh also took the opportunity to call on the police to do their job effectively to avert unnecessary road accidents as the road is smooth and straight. He said there should be a speed limit and if drivers over-speed, they will be delt with according to law.

“We have the motor traffic act on all what drivers do on the road. It is a question of enforcing the law because no matter what you tell the drivers, they will not heed to it” he said. He said that passengers are sometimes a cause of some road accidents as they educe drivers to over-speed.
The Gambian leader said there should be road signs showing speed limits and any driver who fails to abide by  them, should be delt with according to law. Before leaving for Banjul President Jammeh also visited the Kerewan-Farrafenni road which is currently being rehabilitated and upgraded.

Other speakers at the ceremony included, Mr Edward Seckhan, Governor of North Bank Region and Mr Amulai Janneh, Governor of Central River Region, both of whom expressed gratitude to President Jammeh for salvaging them as according to them, the bad conditions of the road have cost a lot of damage to vehicles, and it has also made transporation in the area very difficult.
