Gambia News : Former Gambian MP soldier deny drug trafficking charges

gambia The trial of sacked Gambian parliamentarian Dawda Manneh and ex-soldier, Demba Baldeh has resumed at Banjul Magistrate's Court with both men denying drug trafficking charges, sources in Banjul disclosed to PANA on Friday.

Mr. Manneh was expelled from the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) after his arrest with a friend for being in possession of more than 9 kgs of cannabis.

A prosecution witness, Pa Omar Badjie, testifying before Magistrate Edrissa Mbai on Thursday, narrated how the former MP and his ex-soldier friend were arrested on 13 September with the illicit drug near Gambia's provincial town of Bansang, which lies about 350 kms southwest of the capital, Banjul.

Badjie told the court that it was the former parliamentarian who was driving a Pajero vehicle in which the illicit drug wrapped in a black plastic bag was found at the time of the arrest.

The case has been adjourned to 6 November.
