Gambia News : Gambia Britons charged with sedition are due in court
David & Fiona Fulton, two missionaries charged with committing sedition in the Gambia are due in court on Tuesday.
David Fulton, a former Major in the British Army, and his wife Fiona were arrested in the Gambia last month.
The couple have been living and working as missionaries in The Gambia for the past 12 years.
Both of them will now make a court appearance charged with sedition " the urging of a rebellion against the ruling authority.
Mr Fulton, who is originally from Troon in the United Kingdom is a chaplain for the Gambian army. His wife, from Devon, works with people who are terminally ill.
They both belong to the Pentecostal Church.
The Gambian Government has accused them of writing to individuals and organisations abroad and attempting to "bring into hatred or contempt, to excite disaffection against the President of the Republic, President Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, and the government of the Gambia."
It is understood that Mr Fulton has been held at a high security prison outside the capital Banjul since he was arrested.
His wife is being held at a police station.
