Gambia News : Gambia Armed Forces deny role in witch-hunting
The Public Relations Officer of The Gambia Armed Forces, Second
Lieutenant Omar Bojang, has refuted claims that military officers are
involved in witch hunting and that people are also posing as military
personnel going round with witch hunters.
In an interview with PANA here Friday, Bojang said “it is
unbelievable for any person to believe that the Gambia Armed Forces
would be involved in such a thing, ” stressing that the country's armed
forces would not involve in such acts and would never condone it.
According
to him, the army is a professional and a well disciplined force, which
role is to protect the lives and properties of Gambian people within
the country.
Bojang noted that an officer of the Gambian Armed
Forces would not take part in such type of activities, adding that the
nation's armed forces were more of civil than real military in terms of
community matters.
He also said the army would not harm or subject anybody to such things as claimed by the people of Jambur.

- PRO Bojang did not present one shred of evidence showing that the people of Jambour fabricated the story. Their story has been corraborated by the citizens of Nuimi who were also subjected to the humiliating treatment at the hands of these Casamance witch-hunters accompanied by army officers. Yahya Jammeh has reduced a once proud GNA of professionals into a rag-tag band of bandits and human rights abusers.
