Gambia News : FAO D-G, Gambian officials to review world food crisis
Dr. Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the United Nations Food and
Agriculture Organisation (FAO), on a visit to the Gambia, says his
meeting with Gambian government officials will centre on the global
food crisis, animal production, fishing among others.
On arrival in the country Sunday on a two-day working visit, Diouf
told journalists at the Banjul International airport, the discussions
would also review agrculture in Africa and the world at large.
According
to sources, the FAO D-G will hold a meeting with the Gambian President
Yahya Jammeh Monday at the State House and their discussion would focus
on strengthening the already extising bilateral relations between the
country and the organisation.
According to Diouf, food crisis
has affected Africa because, the continent does not have the elasticity
to supply food in response to the growing food crisis compared to
developed countries and other parts of the world.
He pointed out
that Africa deserved a special support to avert the global food crisis,
commending Jammeh on his agricultural development project.
