Gambia News : Absence of witnesses stalls Gambian editor's nationality case

gambia The nationality case preferred against the Managing Editor of Gambia's The Point newspaper, Mr. Pap Saine, was stalled at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Lamin George on Thursday as witnesses failed to turn up.

When the case came up for hearing, police prosecutor Inspector Amadou Keita applied for an adjournment on the grounds that the two witnesses he intended to bring to the court had travelled out of the jurisdiction.

Defence counsel, Antouman Gage, told the court they were not opposing the application, but urged the court to impress on the prosecution that there must be an end to the litigation.

Gage said on the next adjourned date, the prosecution should be prepared to proceed with the case, failing which the prosecution case be closed and the defence open defence.

Magistrate George adjourned the case to 18 May 2009
