Gambia News: Ex-Gamtel Boss’s Trial Resumes

The trial of the former Managing Director of Gamtel, Omar Ndow, resumed yesterday before Magistrate BY Camara of the Banjul Magistrates Court.

At the hearing the Prosecution Officer, ASP Bojang, informed the court that at the last sitting on the case, 4th July 2007, the prosecution attempted to tender a document which was objected to by the defense counsel. He said as result of the objection the matter was adjourned for ruling on the argument of both the prosecution and the defence.

At that juncture the court adjourned the case to 11th September 2007 for ruling and continuation of the prosecution case.

It would be recalled that the ex-Gamtel boss has been standing trial on charges of disobedience of statutory duty contrary to section 115, and abuse of office contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

In Count one the particulars of offence state that Omar Ndow about the year 2005 and 2006 at Gamtel house in the city of Banjul being employed in the public service as the Managing Director of Gamtel willfully omitted to refer a contract proposal to the Gambia Public Procurement Authority (GPPA) as a statutory requirement of him.

In Count two the offence read that the former Gamtel boss on or about the year 2005 and 2006, at Gamtel house in Banjul, being employed in the public service, willfully failed to follow the requirement procedure of the GPPA regulation. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
