Gambia News : Jammeh fires 6 senior security officers
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has dismissed six senior security officers, including Inspector General of police Ensa Badjie and Navy Commander Sarjo Fofana, according to a statement from the State House here Wednesday.
Others dismissed by the President are Col. Ma Matar Secka, Commander Military Police; Maj. Kolute Manneh, Army Headquarters; Lt Famara Jarssey, Army Headquarters and Lt.-Col. Abdoulie Jatta of the Gambia National Guard.
No reasons were given for the dismissals.
The statement also announced the following appointments: Yankuba Sonko as Acting Inspector General of Police; Commodore Sillah kujabbie as Acting Navy Commander and Lt.-Col. Kawsu Sanyang as Commander of the Gambia Arme d Forces Training School. All appointments take immediate effect.
According to the presidential statement, Famara Jallow, a police commissioner who was earlier dismissed, was reinstated and appointed as Deputy Inspector General of police.
The latest sackings came a day after the President dismissed the deputy Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, Maj.-General Yankuba Drammeh, who was replaced by Gen. Ousman Badjie, younger brother of the sacked IGP.
PANA learnt that the former IGP has been detained at Mile 2 prisons, after he was questioned by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

- Just to clarify - my husband is not IGP. He has not been detained, he has not been questioned and we still do not know why he was dismissed. Doesn't matter, we have better things to do than worry about these things. Peace of mind is a blessing.

- Hey,my message to Mrs wood jatta,all sympathies to IGP and some,,dont know how long u know him,but we gambians are not surprise of IGP dismissal.I ma self grew up with,IGP(Jesus) in serrekunda,he is not diciplin nor educated,he is not qualified.And?
