Gambia News: President Jammeh "Sierra Leonean Change of Power is Historical"
President Jammeh has called the peaceful transfer of power from one political party to the other following presidential elections two months ago as “unique and historical.” Mr. Jammeh said this on Friday 16th November shortly after arriving at Banjul International Airport, returning from attending the inauguration of the newly elected Sierra Leonean President, Ernest Bai Koroma. The inaugural ceremony in Freetown was graced with the presence of many West African leaders including those of Liberia, Senegal and Nigeria. Mr. Jammeh was received at the airport by VP Isatou Njie Saidy, members of cabinet and the diplomatic corpse. The trip was Jammeh’s second overseas trip this year and during his absence security forces were on the alert, stopping and searching vehicles at strategic locations. Mr. Jammeh’s pronouncement tends to ignore recent peaceful and orderly transfer of political power in neighboring Senegal, Kenya and Liberia. Mr. Jammeh and his followers have repeatedly told voters during election campaigns that in Africa the ballot cannot bring out such changes, hoping to stem the tide of such hopes, an analyst told The Gambia Journal.
President Jammeh also told reporters of his gratefulness to the government of Sierra Leone for its hospitality to the relatively large Gambian student community studying in Sierra Leonean universities.

- This is a great moment. I know a lot of sierra leonean refugees in The Gambia, they are very nice and humble people. I am happy that such a day has come for them and that they may be able to return home and see their long lost families & friends. As africans, we must unite in a global interest and make sure that such wars never get a chance to initiate in this continent. One african countries problem, is another african country's problem.
