Gambia News : Gambia Supports Iran's Nuclear Programs
Gambian President Yahya Jammeh backed up Iran's peaceful nuclear
activities and reiterated Banjul's continued support for Tehran in
international circles.
Jammeh made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's new Ambassador to the Banjul Jahanbakhsh Hassanzadeh.
During the meeting, the Iranian envoy submitted his credentials to
Jammeh and conveyed President Ahmadinejad's warm greetings to his
Gambian counterpart.
He further pointed to the two countries' "very cordial ties", and
underlined the necessity for the further "deepening of bonds between
the two Muslim nations".
The diplomat also called for the "expansion of economic
cooperation", and said that an Iranian delegation would soon pay a
visit to Gambia to "study potentials for industrial and agricultural
cooperation" between the two countries.
The Gambian president, for his part, viewed his countries'
relations with Iran as "brotherly", and extended an invitation to
President Ahmadinejad to pay a visit to his country.
Jammeh further pointed to Iran's technical and scientific
capabilities, and called for Tehran's partnership in Gambia's
agricultural and industrial projects.
He further declared Gambia's support for Iran's peaceful nuclear
programs, and underlined his country's insistence on defending Iran in
international circles.
Following the meeting, the Iranian envoy told journalists that Iran
and Gambia had cultivated "excellent relations" since President Jammeh
assumed office in 1994.
He said the two countries enjoyed fruitful cooperation in many
fronts, adding that "a high-powered economic delegation from Iran will
soon visit Gambia to verify and examine further areas of cooperation in
agriculture, investment, industry, metro, chemicals, oil and gas
sectors".
